The Patriot Festival

The 2009 Patriot Festival on Memorial Day Weekend was a wonderful event that allowed the community to salute our military heroes – the men and women who serve our country.  The 2009 Patriot Festival was an activity-filled day with friends and family with live music, a kid's fun area, military vehicles, fire trucks and special military maneuvers throughout the day.

Representatives from all branches of the military, humvees, paratroopers, military bands and Honor Guard were on hand. During the opening ceremonies we recognized seven Congressional Medal of Honor recipients who were introduced by Representative Sue Myrick. Mayor Pat McCrory led a tribute to our fallen angels of the Carolinas at 5:00pm with a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.

Money raised at the 2009 Patriot Festival supported these charities:

  • Fisher House Foundation
  • America Legion Unit 270 Angels in Iraq and Angels of Mercy
  • Hope for the Warriors
  • USO of Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Wounded Warrior Project
  • Special Operations Warrior Foundation
